Poker gems, #281

Tommy Angelo, in Elements of Poker, p. 236.

When I sit down to play poker, if I am hopeful that I will win, it is inevitable that I will sometimes be disappointed. Likewise, when I start with a good hand and I hope to win the pot, I invite disappointment. When I am disappointed, I do not play my best. At my best, I am hopeless.

Many of his quotes to this point have been insightful or thought-provoking. This quote is inane. Maybe he had a few too many shots of tequila while reading one of those silly pop culture "Zen" books attempting to fix everything in life through a shallow (mis)application of Eastern religious thought. Maybe he just had to fulfill his publisher's word count requirement and thought this sounded profound.
