I first heard the "winner winner chicken dinner" playing poker at the Mesquaki Casino in Tama, Iowa. It is one of the many small, friendly poker rooms in the Midwest, whose crowd is a mix of young poker enthusiasts through grizzeled retired farmers.
Frankly, I thought that expression was endearing, and made the game lighthearted and fun. Thus, your comments on the HBP show seem somewhat at odds.
You caution against threats at the table earlier in your piece, and at the end caution against friendly colloquialisms.
I suppose one who self labels as a grump should be allowed some leeway, but in the immortal words of Sargent Hulka "Lighten up Francis".
