Deuce-four on deuce-plus-deuce

Thanks to an anonymous reader for pointing this out to me:

Relevant excerpt:

Finally get in a game. first hand I'm in the Hijack. I look down at 4-2.
yes, it's a crap hand. but.........I read www.pokergrump.blogspot.com and he plays this hand a lot so I
figured, WTF. I limped. Button popped it to 15. Uh oh........everybody who
limped also called the raise so the pot was like 75 bucks when it came to me.

so, I did what any rational player should do. I called! flop came out 8-4-2
rainbow. checked around to me. I bet small - like 20 bucks. on guy calls. Turn
comes a Q. guy bets 30 with 40 behind. I raise him all in. river comes a blank.
I table 2-4 and he shows top pair. he gets up and walks over to his friend. his
friend says with amazement "but he called pre flop with 4-2!". I guess the
beauty of the hand is that if it hits nobody is going to give you credit for
bottom two and if you don't hit you get the heck out of dodge! I don't mind
though, I always like to start a session up!

One other advantage of playing the mighty 4-2 (which I'm sure you've pointed out before) is that when you show it, they think you're a crazy mofo and you'll get lots of action on your "real" hands.

This follows a method of play outlined (very poorly) in Playing Low Limit Hold'em: The 20-4-50 Way by Bob Turgeon.

I, too, have a whack at the might 2x4 when it comes my way, though the flop always misses me.....

Well folks the mighty four two struck again for me today, I have been reading here awhile, and can say to rakewell he has a great blog, thank you. Now as a result I am up 130 for it. Playing a 50cent $1 cash game at full tilt, I am in the hijack and have 4/2 offsuit, so remembering these comments having read them a few days ago, I raise the pot as nobody has entered for 3.5. Button then minraises, and the blinds fold, so because it is only a minraise, to $6 bucks I call the additional $2.5 not wanting to fold to reraise that small, anybody why the hell I folded so easy after raising. So the flop comes down and wholly .... does it get anybetter than this, 4 4 2. Well thought about betting out but in this case check to the raiser, hoping and figuring he has the high pkt pair. Sure enough he bets another 6, I call, turn is a 6, I check, he bets 17, I min raise to 34 he goes all in! Another 117 or so, wow, I call, he has pkt kings, the river is not a king and I take down the $264, thank you to Rakewell! A little somthing to give a smile to the grump. Watty29

Watty29 didn't give us all the details that we'd like to know.

What kind of cussing was going on in the the chat box after he saw the power of the mighty four deuce?

"You raised with 4-2?"
"Are you crazy"
etc. etc.

Memphis I was thinking about that after my post, I can report that he was not very happy. Another guy typed in booyah, loving the big pot, then the victim to the mighty four duece typed something along the lines of ****** followed by the "you donk". I loved it, total table image that I would raise with anything. He was very upset and was commenting how could I do that with four two. I eventually typed back "I don't know it wasn't even soooooted". Well he reloaded for $100 and he left when he was felted, bluffing his money off with the ten three to pkt kings. He 3 -bet his turn all in holding bottom pair, then lamenting he wished his other three or ten had hit.

Well I did play later again after posting last night, and the 4-2 worked again when called a raise for 3.5 in position, flop was Q, 8,4, initial raiser c-bet 6 bucks and I called in position, not wanting to give up on the 4-2 just yet. Well I was rewarded as the four hit the turn. He bet out 17, I min raised to 34 he went all in, I called. He had ace queen, so another hundred for me. It was a very profitable day with the four two. Another pot for 34$ that I had to bluff with it, so it even has those capabilities. The second guy kept quiet and never said a thing just reloaded and carried on.

The best part was how it put the first guy on tilt, and making comments about you never know what I might be raising with. Watty29

This just in!!!>> Marathon 1/3 session at The Wynn. Two large pots with the mighty deuce four!

24 vs ?: (Because the guy doesnt show)

Raiser makes it like $15 to go. A bunch of callers including me out of postion with the deuce four. Flop something like Q 8 4 (no flush draw)(and did I mention I am out of position! LOL)...checks out the ass..og raiser C-bets like $40...fold fold fold fold...I call planning to take away the pot on the turn. He soooooo has AK...even though later he says AA...BULL***T!!! AK for sure but either way the turn is a FOUR!!!! BOW CHICK WOW WOW! I check...HE SHOVES!!! COME TO DADDY!!!

Next>>>

24os vs. KK vs. AA

I'm in the big blind with the mighty deuce four. Late postion makes it $15 to go. Some folding and the button makes it $50 to go. I insta call with the great satan. More folding.

(the others at the table fidget)

The OG raiser adds $65 on top! The button calls and your hero... sucks it up and CALLS ofcourse!

(the others at the table start to pay attention and some walkers take a peek)

The flop is 6 3 8 with 2 hearts. I smooth check, late checks, button makes it $125 to go. I do the samurai showdown stare for a minute (you KNOW I'm calling) and I call.

(ppl at the table start standing up now. Mumbleing to each other excited and confused by the action)

Late thinks...then shoves all-in for $184 total. Button seems to get REAAAALLLLY uncomfortable but he calls. And your hero...what does he do?...wait for it...I call. :)

(now everyone is like "WTF do they HAVE!?!?")

The turn...9 of hearts (so ugly).

(the now CROWD around the table does one of those collective sigh/moan/whoa/groan things...you know they know it's coming...on some level they know...oh yes...they know.)

I now have a flush draw WITH my gutter!!! I ninja stare at the button AND SHOVE!!!

(from the crowd I hear, "WHAT DOES HE HAVE!?!? I hear someone wisper, "maybe a flush?". I hear the word "set" randomly and still another whisper, "straight?")

The button looks sick...positively PALE for an african american LOL...but...he calls.

(The crowd goes WHOOOOA! JESUS!)

The river is a nice teeny tiny little 5 of clubs. bink.
BAM~!!!! SHIP IT~!!!! :D

The dealer says ominously, Turn'em over and show me a winner. Late slamms down (you guessed it) KK. I say, "I just have a two and four... for a straight." "AHAHAHAHA!"

(THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!! does not do it justice lol)

The button sits quitely stunned.

Eventually he pushes his money softly towards the dealer, stands quietly, turns over AA and walks off. Eventually it dawns on KK that he's beat! LOLOLOL!! He seemed sad but when it dawns on him that AA DID'NT WIN he becomes COMPLETELY BEFUDDLED...LMFAO!

Side notes: #1 Your hero was, in fact, the only one drawing to the flush on the turn. Deuce of hearts 4 of diamonds BABY! I had to give them SOME chance just to be fair! #2 The total pot was a little over $1,475. #3 AGAIN: These moves are preformed on a closed track by professionals. PLEASE DO NOT TRY THESE AT HOME! It could lead to hommicide. :D LOL!
