Immigration

If you don't think the United States has insane policies, practices, and procedures related to immigration, go read Terrence "Not Johnny" Chan's blog post from earlier today, describing how he is not being allowed to visit here from his home in Canada:

And yet, you've stated your support for senate candidate Angle, who has immigration positions that are even more extreme than this.

Now, I realize that there are many other reasons why you are voting for Angle over Reid, but still...

Anonymous beat me to this.

You either vote for Angle or sympathize with people being terrorized at our borders (poker players or not) - sorry, can't have it both ways.

That would be true if I thought that immigration was the most important issue. But I don't. Of course I disagree with Angle on immigration, and a long list of other topics, too. But all candidates are mixed bags. There is nothing intellectually inconsistent about deciding that Angle would be on the whole a less awful senator than Reid and at the same time saying that I think she is dead wrong about immigration and any number of other things. Voting for a person does not commit me to endorsing every opinion he or she has, nor require me to shut up about our points of disagreement.

FWIW, I'm in favor of a nearly open border. Stop on your way in and tell us who you are and where you come from. As long as we have no reason to think you're an enemy, fugitive from justice, etc., come on in, stay as long as you like, work at whatever job you can find. We should have free markets in jobs as well as in goods.

Thankfully it's looking grim for Angle.

I love the support for Harry Reid. How much worse can the situation in Nevada get before the few remaining people w/ jobs realize there's got to be a better choice?
