I'm not the biggest loser

I was unhappy to record a net loss for the month of January--down $255, to be exact. Not devastating, by any means, but unpleasant and disheartening. Some of it was due to bad luck, of course, but I'll admit that I was also afflicted by a streak of the Fancy Play Syndrome virus. Reverting back to my more habitual by-the-book, ABC, solid, value-bet approach seems to have turned the boat around. This week, though yet incomplete, is already my fifth-best since moving to Vegas, and the very best week that doesn't include a tournament score (i.e., it's my best-ever cash-game-only week).

But in the last couple of days, the news has presented me with more reasons not to feel quite so bad about a -$255 January:

1) There's this guy, who apparently owes Caesars and Rio some $14.7 million.

2) There's Tom "Durrrr" Dwan, who reportedly lost $3.5 million playing online in January. (Reached via this Wicked Chops Poker post.)

3) Then there's the Fertitta family. For a long time, it seemed that everything they touched turned to gold, but since taking their Stations Casinos company private, they are estimated to have lost no less than $3.5 billion. Now that's gotta hurt!

I guess I can take my little bad month in stride....

The numbers for durr are not accurate, since they only keep track of Full Tilt games. Nobody knows what he won or lost on Stars (he is Holdem_NL there) and other sites, also he is known to stake a lot of people as well as when he plays nosebleeds some players have % of his action. He might not be a loser at all or he might be a bigger loser than 3.5, we just don't know and all the numbers are speculative...

I had a decent January till I dropped 1.9k in one session and only finished it up 1200. This month being crappy too, up 165 in 15 hrs blah and down 450 online :( Where would you say the softest games are in Vegas? I need to score a couple of winning sessions to boost my confidence.

Grump, it happens to the best. I read your blog all the time and see you kicking ass on a regular basis, so don't feel bad. I too had ONE losing month Feb 08 (-$130.00) in the 15 months I've been in Vegas.

What's you hourly rate of all time? That's the most important number right? Mine is less than $20.00 and most $1/$2 players are about the same. I wonder if you are over $20.00

I am at 24$/hr in Sep1-Jan31, but I have some huge losing sessions, had one -1800 and another -1900. Had I known when to quit at times that rate would be better.

Grump do you reply to the comments?
