In limit poker, where the blinds are large relative to the action, missing the blinds and posting will cause you to lose significant EV in the dead small blind. If you have to miss a hand, the best hand to miss is actually UTG, which has neutral EV. The other option, which is EV-neutral but cuts your win rate, is to lobby for a full orbit.
I'm not sure how applicable this is to NL/PL games, where the action is generally large relative to the blinds, but the general principle of avoiding dead blinds is worth noting.
